John F. Auer
President and CEO

John founded the American Strategic Insurance group (ASI) in August 1997 to provide a voluntary market for residential property insurance. Under John’s leadership, ASI has grown to become one of the 15 largest residential property insurers in the United States.

Prior to founding ASI, John served as Vice President of Product Management and Corporate Planning at Bankers Insurance Group and as a Division Controller at Crum & Forster Personal Insurance. He began his insurance career in 1976 as an internal auditor at State Farm Mutual Insurance Company.

Throughout his career, John has played a key role in working with regulators and legislators in finding solutions to property insurance issues. He currently serves as a Board member and Chair-Elect of the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund Advisory Council, and was previously appointed to Florida’s Property and Casualty Reform Committee’s technical advisory council. He has also served on the Boards of the Florida Windstorm Underwriting Association and the Insurance Institute for Property Loss Reduction (now the Institute for Business & Home Safety).

John earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Ohio State University; an MBA from the University of Texas; and the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.


Kevin R. Milkey
Executive Vice President

Kevin joined ASI in January 1998. Kevin’s leadership at ASI includes coordination of the senior management team, supervision of the ASI employee experience, and certain pricing and product management functions.

Prior to joining ASI, Kevin worked at Bankers Insurance Group as Assistant Vice President of Product Management, leading the Underwriting and Private Passenger Auto Product Management departments. His responsibilities included establishing rates and underwriting rules, overseeing agency management, and conducting new market research and product development.

Kevin has a focus on community involvement, public service and providing a thriving work environment. ASI is a top local contributor to charitable organizations and has repeatedly been rated the #1 company to work for in the Tampa Bay Times “Tampa Bay’s Top Places to Work” survey and named one of Florida’s “Best Companies To Work For” by Florida Trend magazine.

Kevin graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Vermont and earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.


Philip Brubaker
Vice President, Product Management

Phil joined ASI in June 2006. He leads ASI’s Product Management department, which is responsible for designing and developing new product programs as well as maintaining rate adequacy countrywide.

Prior to joining ASI, Phil worked as an independent expert consultant assisting insurance companies with product design, pricing and marketing. He began his career with General Electric in 1987, working as a Consultant, Product Manager and Region Sales Manager. He has also worked for the Windsor Group, Travelers Insurance and GMAC Insurance.

Phil earned his bachelor’s degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Virginia.


Angel Conlin
Vice President, General Counsel

Angel joined ASI in February 2010. She leads the Legal and Compliance department, which is responsible for managing all legal matters for the ASI group of companies.

Prior to joining ASI, Angel served as Associate Vice President and Regional Counsel for Nationwide Insurance. During her ten years at Nationwide, she held various counsel and management roles within the Office of General Counsel. She began her legal career in private law practice handling insurance, tort and criminal matters.

Angel is dedicated to ensuring a stable insurance marketplace for consumers. She proactively works with regulators and legislators to address insurance issues. She is a member of the Board of Directors and the Chairperson of the Finance and Audit Committee of the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association, the statutorily-created system for paying outstanding claims of insolvent insurers. She is also Chairperson of the Florida Insurance Council and served on the Florida Insurance Consumer Advocates’ Homeowners’ Policy & Claims Bill of Rights Working Group.

Angel earned her law degree from the University of Florida College of Law and her bachelor’s degree, with distinction, from Purdue University with a dual major in psychology and law and society.


Tanya Fjare
Vice President, Business Analysis and Project Management

Tanya joined ASI in March 2002. Her responsibilities include catastrophe modeling, exposure management and statistical reporting for the ASI group. She leads internal management reporting and analysis, data management for internal and external clients, and data integration solutions. Tanya manages the internal quality control group that is responsible for programming specifications, coordination of the state expansion process, implementation of products from a technology perspective, and monitoring overall systems quality. She also serves as the primary liaison to e-INS, a wholly-owned information technology company responsible for the development and maintenance of ASI’s policy administration system.

Prior to joining ASI, Tanya was employed by Bankers Insurance Group in its Product Management department.

Tanya earned her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in business administration from Flagler College.


Mary Frances Fournet
Vice President, National Accounts and Corporate Services

Mary Frances joined ASI in February 2000. She is responsible for leading ASI’s National Accounts and Corporate Services departments. She leads ASI’s efforts to maintain and expand relationships with large, multi-location partners. She coordinates assistance to national accounts in achieving strategic objectives and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Mary Frances began her career at ASI as an outside Director of Marketing. She has experience as a law firm administrator, small business consultant, and various sales and sales management positions. She has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana.

Mary Frances earned her bachelor’s degree in quantitative analysis from Louisiana State University.


Jeff Hannon
Vice President, Marketing

Jeff joined ASI in October 2013. He is responsible for leading all corporate marketing functions, as well as the Field Marketing team.

Prior to joining ASI, Jeff was a director of Agency Distribution for Progressive Insurance, leading a field marketing team in addition to the Progressive Home Advantage implementation. Prior to his time at Progressive, he was an Assistant Vice President of Marketing for the Agency Markets division at Liberty Mutual.

Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from John Carroll University.


Trevor Hillier
Vice President, Finance

Trevor joined ASI in April 2004. Trevor leads ASI’s Finance department and his areas of responsibility include accounting, corporate planning and corporate finance.

Prior to joining ASI, Trevor was Assistant Controller at Bankers Insurance Group. While at Bankers, he directed corporate accounting, which included income taxes, preparation of the corporate plan, and coordination of audits with an independent accounting firm. Before Bankers, Trevor worked as an accounting analyst for SouthTrust Bank.

Trevor is a certified public accountant. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of South Florida and an MBA from the University of Florida. Trevor is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Florida Institute of CPAs and Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society for business students.


Patrick T. McCrink
Vice President, Claims

Patrick joined ASI in June 2014. He is responsible for leading ASI’s Claims department, including all claims operations, strategic direction, and catastrophe preparedness plans.

Prior to joining ASI, Patrick was Vice President of Claims for Universal North American Insurance from July 2010 to June 2014 and for Travelers Insurance from November 2004 to July 2010. During his tenure at Travelers, he was instrumental in developing a catastrophe plan that was utilized nationally.

Patrick is a past President and member of the Board of Directors of the Windstorm Insurance Network; served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes; and is a member of the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety.

Patrick earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Leo University, holds both the American Educational Institute’s Claims Law designation and Property designation, and is a licensed claim professional in Florida. He also is working to earn the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.


Kellie O'Nuallain
Director, Underwriting

Kellie joined ASI in September 2007. She leads ASI’s Underwriting and Customer Service Management departments. Kellie oversees ASI’s underwriting and risk management philosophies and procedures in relation to strategic objectives and market conditions. She also ensures consistent delivery of ASI’s superior customer service experience.

Kellie began her career at ASI as an inside Marketing Manager. In this role she coordinated the efforts of the company’s inside sales team and assisted in the development of national accounts. Prior to joining ASI, she worked as an Underwriting Manager for another insurance carrier.

Kellie earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Florida.
