Your agent may also be able to give you a better idea of how your claim might affect your status as an ASI customer.
Will my claim be covered?
This is a hard question to answer without all the facts. Before knowing if a claim is covered, we must know some of the key facts: what coverages and limits you purchased, what caused the damage or loss and what property was damaged. Each loss is considered based on the unique facts of that loss. To help you better understand your ASI Homeowner Policy, we can suggest contacting your agent or take a few minutes to read the coverages you purchased through ASI.
Why do I need to file a claim? My damages are probably not more than my deductible.
As an ASI customer, you buy insurance to help protect you in case of a covered loss. Filing a claim could help protect you in case there are covered damages or injuries discovered later. Additionally, if you become involved in litigation because of a covered claim, your ASI homeowner insurance could help you by providing legal counsel. By hesitating to file a claim you may run the risk of jeopardizing your coverage.
I reported a claim and have received payment for all but $1,000. Why?
All property insurance policies have a Deductible. This means that you must pay an amount equal to the amount of the Deductible. Generally speaking, the policy deductible runs from $500 to $5,000. However, in Florida and other Hurricane prone states, it is not unusual to see a Hurricane Deductible in the amount of 2% of your dwelling coverage limit. These deductibles reduce the cost of insurance and are indicated on the Declarations Page when they apply.

How does the insurance company pay claims involving my personal belongings?
Don't wait until a claim has already occurred! Inventory your household contents NOW! Make a list of major household items and possessions. If possible, write down serial numbers, date and cost of purchase and include a receipt if you can. Click here to download your Contents Inventory Form and begin the process.
The easiest way to inventory your home is to use a video camera or take still photos of your home and its contents. A video also enables you to record information about the item and the date and cost of purchase.
Whether you take photos or not, at least record a video or write a list on a paper. Make a copy and keep it in a safe, secure place such as a safe deposit box or a family member or friend's house. Then if something happens to your home, the inventory record will be safe.
